Public vs. Private School Experience | Homeschool

I share our homeschool experience through a public school, to a private school and back to a public school again. We have homeschooled with our local district and through the county. We've homeschooled with two private schools that provide minimal services. We've also homeschooled independently (which is through the private school system). And finally we are settled with our current school which is a charter school (publicly funded).

Back when we first homeschooled in 2003, there were few...

HOMESCHOOLING WITH A CHARTER SCHOOL | MY EXPERIENCE

Homeschooling in California has its perks! We are homeschooling using the charter school program. In California, you can homeschool through the private school system or through the public school system. When you homeschool through the private school, you pay money for supplies and services, but when you homeschool through the public school system, you get supplies, services and sometimes funding!

For more information of the schooling options for the state of California, check out his...

HOMESCHOOL HISTORY CURRICULUM REVIEW | ANCIENT GREECE

Unit studies can be so much fun to put together, but I face one problem every. single. time. I plan too much. I get overly excited. I get too many resources. While I struggle to learn how much is just right, come along and I'll show you what works, what didn't work and what we'll save for later. Some resources are worth using again and others weren't worth buying to begin with. We did a few projects with this unit, but not as many as other units. All the lessons and hands-on projects are in the...

High School English Curriculum

When choosing English literature books for my 9th grader, I looked for ones with a historical theme, set in a time period we were studying or were American classics. That way, the books my son was reading for English complemented his US History studies. I chose a variety of books ranging in grade level from junior high through high school. There is a mix of classics, historic fiction and biographies ranging in time period from the 1700's to the 1900's. I don't expect my son to complete this...

CURRICULUM REVIEW | AMERICAN HISTORY | HOMESCHOOLING

I knew we weren't going to get through all the history units we planned, but by this point, I certainly expected to get through more. We didn't complete all our units in part because I kept adding to them and in part because I overpacked these units to begin with. No worries. I'll just carry over these units into the following year and pick them back up in the winter.

I do have this curriculum review to share with you as well as audio samples of the CDs we used for this unit and our Colonial...

HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM COMPARISON | 2ND GRADE CURRICULUM CHOICES

It's one of the hardest things choosing a curriculum. Today, I'm sharing two boxed curricula that are Waldorf inspired. One more so than the other, yet one is more user-friendly than the other.

Homeschool Room Organization

Check out this video from December 2015!! It's all about organization in your school room. You can organize by grade, subject, theme, type, product or publisher. I'll show you a couple ways to organize your thematic units or unit studies. I don't separate my curriculum by grade except for my Waldorf curriculum which takes up a small space. Most of the bins I use to organize my units are from Big Lots or T.J. Maxx and all of them are open bins so they can accommodate over-sized items. Our unit...

Huge Curriculum Haul | Homeschool

Check out our new curriculum supplies! Most supplies were purchased from http://www.rainbowresource.com.

Other vendors: Lakeshore, Apple and HP.

We live in California where we have many choices in education. We chose to enroll with a charter school that provides funding for educational materials and classes. Prior to joining our charter school we were homeschooling independently and paying for our supplies out of pocket (or getting them from the library or second-hand). There are highlights...
