Rebel Homeschool: Reverb#11: 19 Learning Breakthrough

Raising up Activists, Free Thinkers and Agents of Change /

This year my 17 year old learned how to manage his own time better. I've talked about this before, but it's worth praising again. It truly has been the single most important thing he's learned all year.He moved beyond taking other people's suggestions and trying them out to doing some serious self-reflection and trying a solution that he thought would work well for him. Along with making his own life better, our daily interactions as a...

I mentioned awhile back that David (age 11) was being stumped by the multiplication facts. He would learn them. And then forget them. He has difficulty transferring info from his longer short-term memory to his long-term memory, if you catch my drift? So we’ve been investigating different ways of knowing things. And I think we’ve found something that...

~Shady Bayou Academy~ -A Homeschool In Louisiana-: More ...

Okay, so http://www.youtube.com/ was up tonight and I have video for your viewing pleasure. I know pictures can't always capture the cuteness of the kids the way I want, so sometimes video is a must. :)

They also do lots of silly...

A Homeschooler's Perspective on College Life - Learn at Every Turn

But how to make sure they find a college where learning is valued? That has changed my focus from HOW will I get them into college after homeschooling to WHICH college will be right for them.

:) Thanks for tolerating the touchy-feely stuff.

Fridkis said different things to me. And I think I'm still evolving in my thought process. I'm pretty sure the boys will go to college because they will need it to do what they seem to be inexorably fated to do. And I think Fridkis even suggested that she...

Homeschool Planner

You are about to learn all about successful planning as a homeschooling mom!

I learn these things?

Because I have lived the homeschooling lifestyle for more than 13 years.

I admit - I love planning and this habit has paid off in my own life and those of my family.

A homeschooling mom’s day is not all about teaching children their ABC’s and 123’s.

She has to be a chief cook and bottle washer, the medic for bumps and bruises, the domestic help who cleans,

the trainer of her children,...

ABeka Homeschool Curriculum: First Grade Review

Homeschooling mom shares why she uses ABeka homeschool curriculum and what she likes and doesn't like about it. Read her review... I have loved my A Beka homeschool curriculum. I ordered the Grade child kit with some extras for a total of $388.76, but it included every subject, all the books, worksheets, teacher manuals etc. It did keep my six year pretty busy; also my 4 year old was able to learn so much from it. I have used it for a whole year! I really liked how the curriculum is more...

Thy Hand Hath Provided: Saxon Math Shortcuts

Because a couple of you asked me to share how we do Saxon Math....

We chose Saxon math because it was recommended to us by a homeschool family we really like and respect.  Both parents hold biology degrees (and possibly others) and said that Saxon isn't a frilly math program but it teaches math well.  They didn't gloss over the fact that it includes lots of drills.  Boy, does it ever.

Jamey majored in biology.  I did not.  The highest level of math I completed was College Math (it was...
