The Thinking Mother: Recommending Homeschool Classifieds Site

Today I visited the Homeschool Classifieds site for the first time. I might have heard the name of this site in the past on a homeschool email list but had never visited the site to see what it was about. Today I saw it mentioned on the Homeschooler's Corner discussion board on the PaperBackSwap.com website. If you are curious about Paperbackswap.com, click on icon below if you want to peek at the site, which swaps paperback, hardcover and audio books (membership is free). Homeschool...

Yahoo groups for Buying/Selling Curriculum

In my last article I briefly mentioned that Yahoo groups were an excellent place to buy/sell curriculum. I soon realized that a brief mention really didn’t begin to paint an accurate picture, so in this article I’m going to be a little more specific.

You will need a Yahoo account (free) to join a Yahoo group (Yahoo groups homepage). Most groups are moderated because of the huge amounts of spam, so you will have to apply for membership.

First, try to decide if you are looking for a specific...

It teaches nouns, verbs, pronouns, and adjectives without the added frills. I've learnt a lot so far, as I never had a good grounding in English.

I like how it uses...

Primary Language Lessons by Emma Serl

I had been hunting around for a good homeschool language arts resource that suited the Charlotte Mason method then I stumbled across Primary Language Lessons, originally published in 1911 by Emma Serl.

I immediately took to it. I liked its gentle style. The variety was interesting but not dumbed down with busy work. It gave my children something to think and write about. The...
