Your child's education is important. Make the ... - Calvert School Blog
Probably one of the most anxiety provoking experiences for a loving parent is making the decision to educate your child on your own terms. Over the past six years, I have spoken repeatedly with parents who want to make sure that they make the right academic decisions for their children, and that those choices bear good fruit. In my personal opinion, new homeschooling families cannot go wrong by choosing Calvert.
I recently had the occasion to work with a Calvert mother who said something that I...

The Homeschooling Option | The Lazy Mama
I’m not sure what got into me except for the fact that I can see Jack Jack and our family benefiting so much if we would choose to homeschool. If you will notice, I have a new category on homeschooling.
Honestly, I am not the teacher-material. I think many people knew that. And my patience hangs quite low on it’s string. However, I think motherhood changed all that. I find these changes to be marvelous. You’d know what I mean if you had a child yourself.
Homeschooling is pretty much...

..{Princess Warrior Lessons}..: Counting my gifts of homeschooling
The Boy Warriors designed their own board game in their "free time"
I never intended to homeschool. In fact, I planned all my children to be born before June 30 (In Queensland, your child has to be 5 or turning 5 before June 30 to be able to go to school that year.) That way they wouldn't be home any longer than they needed be.
I have fought God against homeschooling over the last few years. I have wrestled with God saying, "Are you sure you want ME to do this?" I have quit homeschool several...

Deschooling, unschooling, homeschooling, roadschooling …
So I changed things a bit – I read a lot about the Charlotte Mason approach to home education, and thought that perhaps we should have a bit more of a focus on nature, and on books. I worked things around a bit to change it, bought a heap of new materials and books, and embarked on a Charlotte Mason home education.
Yet we were still struggling.
I started to expand my reading about home education in to areas I thought were ‘not really our thing’ – I started to read about things like...

A Homeschooler's Perspective on College Life - Learn at Every Turn
But how to make sure they find a college where learning is valued? That has changed my focus from HOW will I get them into college after homeschooling to WHICH college will be right for them.
:) Thanks for tolerating the touchy-feely stuff.
Fridkis said different things to me. And I think I'm still evolving in my thought process. I'm pretty sure the boys will go to college because they will need it to do what they seem to be inexorably fated to do. And I think Fridkis even suggested that she...

some friends comments that i am depriving my 4 year old child of social interactions w/ other children… what do u think home schoolers?
i do not like the idea of home schooling because once they get out in the real world, they are inexperienced. consider sending your child into public school. plus, when he or she grows up, they’ll be missing out on tons such as friends, rebellion, and other things that go on in a regular teenager’s lives. you might think that doing this is the best, but...

Homeschooling Vision Statement
Homeschooling Vision Statement
Have you ever noticed that there are times when your homeschool just sort of goes haywire? You start out organized, prepped, and ready to go and then the excitement wears off, and you find the organization went out the window? Now you and your children seem to be meandering and you have no idea where you are going. My family is the same way. At this point, a new planner or organizational tool, or maybe some other helpful tips seem like the way to go. Yet when I...

AVKO Sequential Spelling Review - Homeschool Curriculum Savings
Do you have a struggling speller? Learn more about AVKO Sequential Spelling curriculum from one happy homeschooling mom! Read her informative review... We are following the Moore "better-late-than-early" philosophy of homeschooling and are delaying academics later than what the public school system does. We started my older daughter in book 1 in 4th grade. The thing I like most about this curriculum is it's not "babyish" for the older student doing beginning or remedial spelling work. Spelling...

Homeschooling recommendations for slight learning disabilities.
I am seriously considering homeschooling my 7 year old daughter. I have long had interest in homeschooling and have researched it for years but due to my own health problems, I took the easy way out. Now, my daughter is paying the price. The teachers at her school are kind and attentive but the curriculum chosen for the school is so ridiculous that even the teachers can't stand it. The children are all struggling with it and my...
