Overcome By the Shiny Curriculum Catalogs | Holy Spirit-led ...
- Would it be better if I just bought this curriculum-in-a-box? Besides, did I mention it’s shiny?!
Then I calm myself down and remember the times I have bought the perfect packages with their promises of perfection. What do I do within a month of receiving my box-o-wonder? I take the entire thing apart, add more books, redesign the schedule, reduced concentration in certain areas and increased it in others. In short, I design a customized education for my children based on their levels,...

Homeschooling | Is educating at home worth the personal sacrifice ...
This was one of my recent (personal) Facebook status updates:
“Educating my children from home seems to require some real stretching of myself. Though I didn’t choose this path for that purpose, I’m seeing it happen… it’s not easy being ‘responsibly’ accountable for educating kids at home. But its a good work-out.”
Another homeschooling mom shared that homeschooling her children was the hardest thing she’s ever had to do.
Expecting it to be hard when you’ve never done it...

Daily Refined: Half Year Home School Update
Each day we start out with circle time where we go over the calender, days of the week, months, our address, phone numbers, time, ABC's, and bible devotional with the memory verse for the week. I have since added a number song, and sounds song for the alphabet. We end circle time with a prayer for the day. Once done with that Graysen either starts with Math or reading(phonics included). Graysen also has a journal where he practices handwriting, copy work(usually our memory verse, and click and...

What are your goals for your blog going forward?

Vermont Homeschooling Chat Site - Guerrilla Homeschooling
Jump into the ongoing conversation at this Vermont homeschooling chat site. The discussion can get heated at times but that's half the fun. The other half of the fun is from the airing of what's on the minds of those who participate here, even if others don't like what they're reading. Homeschooling isn't just about sharing recipes and deciding where to take a field trip. Newbies to this site tend to wimp out early or whine to the moderator. However, this site is monitored by some of the...

Six Reasons You Should Save Time in Your Schedule for Field Trips
Six Reasons You Should Save Time in Your Schedule for Field Trips
by Tonya on November 16, 2011 · 1 comment
I’m nearing the end of my homeschool journey. One child will graduate next year and the other two will soon follow. As I look back over our fondest homeschool memories I think of amazing read alouds that stole a piece or our hearts, co-ops with friends, and even a few science experiments gone bad. I also remember some of the many field trips that we’ve taken since we embarked on...

Black's Cool Homeschool: Language Arts with Norse Myths
Homeschooling has brought many blessings to our family (not the least of which is my children's feeling that school is cool!). And with those blessings comes the desire to document our family’s journey in an attempt to help others who follow.
Ours is a journey that began as an idealistic voyage in 1981 and has evolved into an eclectic expedition. Let me show you our path and try to communicate some truths I've learned.
Throughout my years of homeschooling, I have used literature to teach...

AVKO Sequential Spelling Homeschool Review
Homeschooling mom says, "AVKO Sequential Spelling homeschool curriculum is just what we were looking for." Read her review to find out why... I had been using a different homeschool spelling curriculum for my children in about 3-6th grade. They were doing fine, until they got to the section reviews. They remembered so little. So, I decided they needed something to reinforce their phonics that they had learned in earlier grades. A friend told me about sequential spelling. It has been just what...

Spin the Wheel: Unschool to a BOUGHT CURRICULUM?!?!?!?!?
Spin the Wheel: Unschool to a BOUGHT CURRICULUM?!?!?!?!?
OK. So when I returned to blogging, and realized that last year's blog was about my journey from a traditional homeschool regimen to happily unschooling, I felt a little sheepish returning to the blog this year and having to admit that I bought a curriculum.
Let me begin by saying that I completely believe in unschooling. My boys learned so much last year that I would not have thought to teach them in a more conventional setting. And they...
