Korean vet, 79, receives diploma

Philip Shinaver, a Korean War veteran, received his high school diploma from Clay High School in Oregon.

Shinaver left high school early and joined the Navy to serve in the Korean War in the 1950s.

"I sure am proud I finally got my diploma," he said. "I got maybe about 14 days until my birthday. I'll be 80 years old. I was kind of afraid they wouldn't get around to giving me this before I made it."

Shinaver graduated Wednesday evening during an Oregon City Schools board meeting.

Mules muscles $250K Pepsi grant

Bedford High School's Mules athletics have muscled up and won a $250,000 grant from Pepsi.

The cash will allow Bedford High School to build a new weight room.

Mule Muscle, Inc., was one of a number of projects from across the country trying to win the grant. Online voting determined the winner and Bedford claimed the top spot.

Mule Muscle said it hopes the new weight room will promote lifelong health and fitness in students.

Bedford High School is located in Temperance, Mich.

School settles into new home after Ohio tornado

It was anything but a normal first day for Ohio students whose high school was blown apart by a tornado less than three months ago.

They sat at donated desks with overhead garage doors at their

backs. They roamed unfamiliar hallways in a building donated by a

community college.

Still, they made the best of it.
