Should high schools worry about what students do after graduation? This city says yes
Chicago has a new plan to make sure kids pursue a college degree or have another viable career path after high school. By 2020, in order to get a diploma from Chicago public schools, a student will have to prove that they have a job, will be joining a trade school, will go on to college or join the military. Hari Sreenivasan reports as part of our series Rethinking College.

Why six years of high school might pay off in the workforce
At Pathways in Technology Early College High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., students are expected to attend for six years, earning both a high school diploma and a two-year Associate's degree. P-TECH and other schools based on the same model aim to give students from low-income families a head start on college with free, career-oriented coursework. Hari Sreenivasan tells the story.

Online Public Schools Gain Popularity, but Quality Questions Persist
Full-time public cyber schools are now an option in 30 states, allowing some 250,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade to press a button to raise their hand and message their teachers. Goodwill gives dropouts a second chance to earn diploma
The Indianapolis mayor's office approved a network of charter schools designed by Goodwill of Central Indiana with the specific intent of enticing dropouts back to the classroom to earn their high school diploma. Known collectively as The Excel Center, the schools also offer the opportunity to earn college credit and technical certifications before graduation.

Does early college for high school students pave a path to graduation?
In a Texas border town where nearly all high school students live in poverty, the school district is trying an experiment to get more kids into college. Instead of waiting until students graduate to enroll them in higher education, the school is pairing with a local college to offer courses for free. Hari Sreenivasan looks at whether this method for closing the college graduation gap is working.
