Emily's First Report Card

Its weird to see something of yourself in your child’s kindergarten report card. She did wonderful all on her own. I love that we homeschool, so she doesn’t even know she gets a report card. I think I’d like to keep it that way as long as possible. I dont want her to stress about  a piece of paper that says where she is at. She is where she is. I want to know all the details, but I’d rather she just tried to do her best and keep trying new things.

Emily loves her teacher too. Not me…...

greenclogs: not much but a lot

G is going back to school in 3 weeks and A will be taking classes at a homeschool resource center, so I'm feeling summer wind down in a way that I haven't in a long time. Our current and upcoming rhythm is so different from what it's been, and I think this school thing is going to hit us like a ton of bricks. We've done a lot of transition and decompressing since we've been back, along with just enjoying our lovely summer. Fall is going to be go time around here -right now is the quiet before...

5 Tips to Beat Post-Christmas Blues

Soon it will be gone- and time to clean up, pack up, and get back to homeschooling. Back to normal life...

Blah, blech. Holidays are so much more fun...

C.S. Lewis explains that we do not feel complete love until we express it in praise. The more we love, the more we praise, the more complete we feel (and thus, the less we feel blue).

Growing Your Homeschool: Homeschool Laws?

I live in Central New Jersey.

New Jersey has no law on the books regarding Homeschooling.  There is no call to register, no portfolio to prepare, no medical exams to prove.

When we first starting researching homeschooling, I was a little taken aback by the lack of legislation for families in NJ who homeschool.  I work best with a plan, so being given a clean slate was very scary to me.

After reading other state requirements and listening to some parents trying to get everything ready to...

Homeschool Curriculum Packages - Free Online Homeschooling ...

homeschool curriculum packages

I'm in the process of searching for home education curriculum appropriate for my six years of age. After much research, we have reduced it down to either Abeka or AOP (Lifepac). But I had a question for parents who are a bit more experienced. Most websites I've been talking about the fact that Abeka is much more expensive to AOP. But I've looked on websites and compare prices … Abeka seems to run around $ 204 (student kit) + $ 139 (kit from father), also about...

Ohio Homeschool notification and assessments

If you haven't subscribed yet, now is the time!

Ok. I courteously provide all the required info for my notification each year. I write a cover letter to be professional and let them know the contents of my enclose documents. This year instead of sending in a form that basically just quotes the regs for assessment option #1 and makes a blank form where I write in my child’s name , test score and the test name, I included that information clearly in my cover letter. Having done this I received...

Homeschool Science Curriculum With Household Supplies

Exploring Creation with Physical Science, by Dr. Jay Wile, will be our choice for our 8th grade son next year. This year our 9th grade son used this book for his home school science and he loved it. And, as the person helping my son to review for tests, I enjoyed the book as well.

This is a creation-based text, but even so, I think even die-hard evolutionists would find a lot that they would like in this text. What sets this text apart from other creation-science texts is its scientific...

Homeschool Math Program for Struggling Students

Is your child 2, 3, or more years behind in math? There is help! Hi PEAH, When I started teaching my son, 16 years ago, I thought I was doing a good job teaching math, until we got to multiplication. I quickly realized that he couldn't add numbers in his head. And if you can't add in your head, multiplication is very difficult. So, I created a system of my own to help my son learn math, and learn it well. This method not only helped him, he excelled in math! His test scores showed he was 2 even...

Looking for Homeschool Ideas for Waldorf History Curriculum

I will be teaching ancient civilizations to my daughter, this year. Will Roy Wilkinson's TEACHING HISTORY offer main lesson ideas, or does this book focus mostly on subject content? I am looking for some suggestions regarding how to present and help my child absorb the material in this block. Can you direct me to some resource? Thank you. Hi Jessy, I am not familiar with this book or curriculum, perhaps someone else who sees this post and has used this book will offer some help. In the...

”The United States Supreme Court has called the termination of parental rights the family court equivalent of the death penalty,” notes Michael Donnelly, Director of International Relations at the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).”
