Algebra 2 11.08a - Sine and Cosine on the Unit Circle
Understanding the sine and cosine of an angle on the unit circle. In this video, I am trying to help the students get inside the head of an engineer or mathematician, so that they can understand some different and useful ways of thinking about the meaning of sin(theta) and cos(theta) in light of angles on the unit circle. From the introductory trigonometry lessons in the Algebra 2 course by Derek Owens. More info on this course and others can be found at www.DerekOwens.com and http

Algebra 2 11.07d - Sine and Cosine for Other Angles
This video continues the discussion from the previous video. Some comments on the sine and cosine values for angles *other* than 30, 45, and 60 degrees. In a trigonometry class, students should not be left with the mistaken impression that 30, 45, and 60 degree angles are the only angles encountered. This video discusses the basic trig concepts in light of all angles, large and small. From the trigonometry lessons which are part of the Algebra 2 course by Derek Owens. More info is available at...

Algebra 2 2.01a - What is a Function
What is a function? The concept of a function is explained through the use of a specific example of Pressure versus Depth, and the idea of a dependent and an independent variable is discussed. Algebra 2 11.07j - Trig Tables
How we used to find trigonometric values before we had calculators. We looked them up in printed tables. Hipparchus, the "Father of Trigonometry" was the first person to compute and use trigonometric tables. Although we don't know exactly how he did it, we can speculate on some techniques and theorems he may have used. Modern calculators use different methods involving more advanced theory to produce very fast and accurate results.
