Fidelity and School-Home Support team up for a DIY SOS challenge

Two teams of 80-100 workers from firm Fidelity International -

London got their overalls on last week for the DIY SOS challenge, run in collaboration with children’s charity School-Home Support (SHS).

Some of the group were tasked with completely redecorating the homes in one day, including installing new furniture. Others took the families out and some raised money to pay for the supplies.

My autistic son Daniel singing with his awesome home support worker - first attempt!

My autistic son needs LOTS of help with speech and is coming along amazingly well. His awesome home support worker has come up with techniques to help him progress and is using tools learned in another of her jobs - as a teacher aide in a special school. For 20yrs old, she's going places! (Thanks Kim!).

I aborted this attempt as the TV was on in the background. Even though there was no volume, Daniel was getting too distracted.

McDonald's high school worker aims higher

Danielle Taylor of Germantown, a 12th grader home schooled through Agora Cyber Charter School, works 30 hours a week at the Chestnut Hill McDonald's. She's paid at the rate of $7.25 an hour which she thinks is OK for someone, like herself, in high school. She gets no benefits; after a year's work she may be entitled to a raise of 25 cents an hour.
