Canadian Study Finds That Homeschooled Kids Are Smarter Than ...

There has been a lot of excitement during the past few weeks for Vermont homeschoolers, and not the good kind. The Vermont Department of Education tried to change the regulations governing home study. The problem is that they went about it in the kind of sneaky, back-door manner that you expect to see in Washington, not here in Vermont.

Just briefly, this is how the current law works. Homeschoolers in Vermont have to submit a yearly enrollment notice to the state. This consists of an...

IHSAA Meetings To Reconsider Non-traditional Athletes | News ...

Currently, 27 states, including Indiana, do not allow non-traditional students – those who are home schooled or attend non-accredited and virtual schools to compete in interscholastic athletics at home district schools. There are 21 states that do, and two others leave it to the school districts to decide.

IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox thinks that students should be held to certain academic standards to be allowed to compete in state-sanctioned athletics.

New law gives homeschoolers more respect, freedom by The Editor ...

The law also does away with a requirement that the superintendent visit each homeschool home every year, as well as reducing other paperwork and allowing parents to teach their children driver’s education.

Duluth resident Erica Gagnon, who has homeschooled for nine years, said she was somewhat surprised the law passed because of what appears to be a prevailing opinion that homeschoolers do not offer the same benefits as schools.

“A lot of people are concerned about the lack of structure and...
